Hello! My name is Mio Okamoto, and I work for ZenPromo, the Cross-Border E-commerce Promotion service at ZenGroup! Before working for ZenPromo, I handled sales at a mass retail store that sold electronics. The tasks I handle now are very different from my last job, which can be challenging, but I get to learn a lot and gain new skills.

3-5pm Document preparation and related tasks

Daily Tasks

What are your primary tasks?

I have many tasks, including creating contracts and invoices, handling inquiries from existing clients, and conducting online sessions to explain our services. My daily duties vary, which keeps my work feeling new and exciting.

Which tools and platforms do you use daily?

Primarily, I often use Slack to communicate with employees internally and Asana to manage projects and my tasks.

Team Collaboration

What’s your team like?

ZenPromo is a promotion division that helps Japanese companies enhance their digital promotion of e-commerce products in overseas markets. Our services go far beyond simple product translation. With a team representing over 32 nationalities, we understand the unique aspects of our client’s products and propose promotional strategies to highlight their appeal. We offer social media management, multilingual localized content in up to 19 languages, promotional video production, and more.

What are the unique points about your team?

We modify our plans to target international markets. When we work with clients who haven’t decided on the countries they want to target, we conduct market research and share information on competing products. ZenPromo’s unique strength is the ability to provide detailed support to companies venturing into overseas markets.

Do you collaborate with other departments at ZenGroup?

Yes I do! For example, I have coordinated with the ZenLink and ZenMarket team members to confirm service proposals. However, out of all the services we offer, ZenPromo collaborates most closely with ZenPlus. ZenPromo was originally established to support the promotional needs of Japanese companies that sell products via our ZenPlus service.

Learning and Development

How do you stay updated on the latest trends in your position?

To help with sales, I usually gather information from online seminars hosted by other companies. I also check statistics released by tourism agencies and social media sites like Instagram.

What have you done for self-improvement?

I still have a lot to learn about the digital marketing industry, so I read books about marketing and try to use the new terms and concepts I pick up when reading.

Work-Life Balance

How do you manage your work-life at ZenGroup?

I think overtime varies on an individual basis. For me personally, If I work late one day, I try to leave early the next day to maintain my physical and mental well-being. Going to the gym after work is also a great way to relieve stress.

Do you have any tips for maintaining productivity and avoiding burnout?

Our team has OKRs, which are similar to KPIs, but I also set small, achievable goals to keep myself motivated and on track. These goals can be minor, like getting a quote approved without revisions. Achieving small goals builds my confidence, which motivates me to tackle new challenges and helps me avoid getting mentally and physically tired.

Personal Insights

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I feel a sense of accomplishment when negotiations with a client go smoothly. For example, when I submit a quotation to a client and the client approves it without any revisions, I feel happy and tell myself “I did it!”. This achievement is very fulfilling to me because it shows that the client understands the value of ZenPromo and trusts us.

What advice would you give to someone just starting out in your position?

While my title is “Sales Assistant,” I also handle tasks closely related to sales. I make calls to arrange appointments and if there are service-related inquiries, I handle them during online meetings. I think being an “assistant” does not mean you cannot be involved in sales activities. Here at ZenGroup, our team members are always willing to take on new challenges and tasks.
