Starting at a new company can feel overwhelming. Mid-career job changes are common, but your first day might not include any familiar faces, which can lead to feelings of isolation and uncertainty about who to turn to for help. That sense of isolation is one of the leading causes of early resignations, which can be a negative experience for both the employee and the company. At ZenGroup, we believe that supporting new employees from day one is essential to creating a positive and lasting workplace experience.

At ZenGroup, we’ve implemented a mentor system to help new employees adjust to their work environment and get to know their team members. All new entry-level employees receive three months of mentorship from a mentor, who is an employee from a different department. Mentors are non-managerial staff members selected by upper management and are trusted individuals who can offer guidance not only about work but also about personal matters. One-on-one meetings are held regularly to address any concerns or challenges the new employees may be facing. Another benefit of this system is that the company covers lunch costs during these meetings, creating an opportunity to build a comfortable and open relationship.

Meeting Schedule

1st month Weekly meetings
2nd month One meeting per month
3rd month One meeting per month

(Meetings last 15–30 minutes in a private meeting room.)

Lunch Schedule

1st month Twice a month
2nd month Once a month
3rd month Once a month

(Lunch can be taken in the office break room using a food delivery service or at a nearby restaurant.)

My Personal Experience with ZenGroup’s Mentor System

When I first joined ZenGroup, my biggest challenge was getting used to the tools required for daily tasks. The company uses specific software for internal communication and task management, and learning to use these effectively was my first major hurdle. My mentor navigated me through each tool efficiently, shared useful shortcuts, and even sent helpful web articles, which greatly improved my PC skills.

Technical and work-related support is almost expected, but another great benefit of the mentor system is the opportunity to connect with employees from different departments. ZenGroup is a company with multiple divisions and there are many colleagues you may not interact with daily. This system assists in expanding new employees’ networks within the company.

My previous workplace was a small company with limited internal communication. I often hesitated to ask even simple questions. Going through the mentor system at ZenGroup was an eye-opening experience for me. A company that prioritizes not only employee performance but also emotional well-being is truly an ideal workplace for anyone.
